Ogle County Jail Release Paths
Ogle County Jail holds local pretrial and sentenced adults, people serving periodic imprisonment, and sometimes detainees held for outside agencies. One building can therefore produce several kinds of exit. A judicial pretrial release may send a person into the community while the case continues. Completion of a county sentence may end that jail term. A probation sentence is supervised through the local court system and is not the same as parole or mandatory supervised release from an Illinois prison.
Other exits continue custody. A prison sentence can result in transfer to the Illinois Department of Corrections. A federal detainee may return to the U.S. Marshals Service, while a person held for another county may go to that jurisdiction. The Ogle record should preserve the release or transfer code, receiving agency, and destination. Those fields are more reliable than assigning a meaning to a missing search result.
Confirm an Ogle Jail Release
Start with the system that held the person. A county booking that never became a state commitment usually will not appear in the IDOC search. Ogle directs users to Illinois VINE for custody status and release notification, the Ogle Safe App for inmate search, and Judici for court dates.
- Search the correct person in VINE and the Ogle Safe App. Record the exact status and date displayed, but treat a non-match as inconclusive.
- Select Ogle County in Judici. Use the case number when possible and review detention, release, disposition, sentencing, and warrant entries.
- Call the jail at 815-732-2135 for current operational information. Ask whether the person remains there and whether departure was recorded as release or transfer.
- Request the booking sheet, actual discharge or transfer timestamp, exit code, and receiving agency through the Sheriff’s records channel.
- Move to IDOC or the relevant federal or county source only when the documented destination points there.
A court order can authorize release before physical departure. Processing, another warrant, or a detainer may intervene. Pair the court event with the jail exit record. The county-wide Ogle County released inmate search provides the broader custody-system paths for a person whose destination is already known.
Ogle Jail Records and Contact
Use the jail line for immediate custody logistics and the Sheriff’s FOIA route for documentary records. Jail Administrator Lt. Jason Lynn is listed in the research contact material. The current Sheriff public office is separate from the jail address, so send a request through the official channel rather than relying on an older inspection address.

Request Ogle Jail Exit Records
Illinois law identifies chronological arrest information that includes the time and date a person was received into, discharged from, or transferred from agency custody. Make a written request to the Sheriff for an existing record tied to one booking. Include the full name, date of birth if known, approximate admission date, case number, booking number, and arresting agency.
Ask for records sufficient to show the booking sheet, admission timestamp, discharge or transfer timestamp, release code or reason, hold information, and receiving agency or destination. Add the booking photograph or signed property receipt only when relevant. The request should distinguish transfer from release to the community. A booking sheet that lacks an exit time does not answer the question.
The county says its FOIA form is convenient but not mandatory and links to the Sheriff’s GovQuest portal. Noncommercial requests ordinarily receive a response, denial, or extension notice within five working days after receipt, counted from the following day. FOIA provides existing records, not a duty to create an answer. For older events, ask whether an archive exists and which approved retention schedule controls.
Does Ogle Transfer USMS Detainees?
Yes. The March 2023 IDOC inspection states that Ogle County Jail houses U.S. Marshals Service detainees and occasionally people for other jurisdictions. This is an Ogle-specific reason why disappearance from the local search cannot be treated as proof of community release. Returning a federal detainee to USMS custody ends Ogle’s holding role while federal pretrial custody may continue.
Request the destination and receiving agency from the Sheriff. Then consult the federal docket for a release or detention order. The U.S. Marshals Service does not provide a general public historical released-person locator. The Bureau of Prisons locator is relevant only if the person enters BOP custody; the fact that Ogle sometimes holds federal detainees does not make every federal booking a BOP record.
The same rule applies to another county. Ogle’s transfer timestamp and the receiving agency’s intake record describe two sides of the handoff. They may have different processing times without conflict. Do not announce community release until the record supports it.
Ogle Jail’s Dated Facility Facts
The current Ogle County Jail was constructed in 2020. IDOC’s inspection on March 8, 2023, listed a rated capacity of 162, divided into 130 male and 32 female spaces. Inspectors counted 41 occupants that day, including 36 men and five women, and recorded 17 full-time jail-duty staff. No juveniles were housed there on the inspection date.
These numbers describe the building and one inspection day. They are not current 2026 occupancy, an annual release total, average daily population, or booking turnover. No official annual Ogle release count or average stay was found. Rated capacity minus the inspection population cannot be converted into a release statistic.
The report also noted USMS and other-jurisdiction holding, though only Ogle detainees were present on inspection day. Date every use of those facts. A later population or staffing figure requires a newer official source.
Property After Ogle Jail Release
Personal property creates a practical deadline after release or transfer. Ogle says all property must be collected within 30 days after either event. Before release, authorized property pickup within 72 hours after arrest requires the detained person’s authorization. The person collecting it must present government-issued identification.
The IDOC inspection checklist treats signed, itemized property receipts as permanent jail records. When a dispute or missing item is relevant, request the receipt by name, booking date, and booking identifier. The property record can support what was stored or collected, but it should not replace the discharge timestamp as proof that custody ended.
Release-processing hours, a specific exit door, a family waiting area, and a rideshare policy were not published in the official material reviewed. Call the jail for current logistics. The Lee-Ogle Transportation System appears in the Illinois Courts local information, but no jail-door stop or release-hour service was verified.
Ogle Work Release Is Custody
The Sheriff’s sentence page also calls the facility the Ogle County Correctional Center. People ordered to report for a county sentence must arrive at the front vestibule at the date and time in the court order and bring a copy. Periodic imprisonment or work release allows controlled time outside for approved purposes. It is not completed release from the sentence.
Ogle charges $24 per day for the full sentence duration under the published work-release instructions. Transportation documents and approved departure rules apply, and stored property remains at the facility until sentence completion. County good-behavior allowance is governed by the county framework, not IDOC’s prison projected-discharge formula. Periodic imprisonment requires judicial authorization.
The Ogle sentence and work-release page shows the reporting and controlled-departure instructions.

The county page supports the distinction between an approved temporary departure and final completion of jail custody.
Read Ogle Exit Terms Precisely
The agency’s code should control how an exit is described. “Pretrial release” means the case continues outside jail under court conditions. “Time served” or sentence completion ends the specified county confinement, subject to any other hold. Probation is a court sentence supervised locally. It is not IDOC parole or mandatory supervised release.
- Discharge
- The holding agency records the end of its custody episode.
- Transfer
- A receiving agency takes custody, so confinement may continue.
- Detainer
- A legal basis or request for another agency to hold or receive the person.
- Mittimus
- The court commitment document that directs custody under a sentence.
An IDOC record is appropriate after a state commitment and can show admission, status, location, and the exact field “Projected Discharge Date.” That projected field is not proof of actual release. For an Ogle-only booking, the Sheriff’s exit record remains the primary physical-departure evidence.
